Firefighter Training

Our training programs are designed to prepare individuals for real world emergency situations through a combination of classroom instruction and hands on experience.



Classes are scheduled throughout the year and posted as they become available.

Important Notice

Please note the following attendance policy:

If you register for a class and do not attend, the following penalties will apply:

  • First offense: $20 fine
  • Second offense: Three month suspension from taking classes
  • Third offense: One year suspension from taking classes

    Prerequisites:

    Age 18 and up, Interior Firefighter (ELIF), or Bucks Basic Academy, or FF 1 


    Description:

    This course provides instruction in the duties and responsibilities of an engine company. Topics include: fire behavior and spread in structures, positioning of apparatus, use of attack and backup lines, search and rescue, and water supply. A series of hands-on drills involving various engine company evolutions follows the classroom discussion.

  • May 26, 28 & 31 - June 2, 4 & 7 | ROPE TECHNICAL RESCUE AWARENESS & OPERATIONS

    Prerequisites:

    Age 16 and up, Basic Ropes and Rigging Training (Preferred)


    Gear:

    Work clothing for weather, Rescue helmet (with chin strap), Eye Protection, Work boots, and Work gloves


    Description:

    This program is designed to introduce the student to the hazards and challenges associated with rope rescue incidents. The student will develop their situational awareness and acuity needed to accurately assess rope rescue incidents and communicate critical elements to the incoming resources. The students will develop their knowledge and skills to construct and operate rope rescue systems. These systems will incorporate progress capture, twin tension systems, belay systems, haul systems, and lowering systems. Additionally, the student will act as a member of a rescue team capable of supporting rope rescue efforts. During this course, students will review technical rescue strategies and tactics, manage potential hazards and conditions, and navigate through rescue challenges and conditions that would hinder rescue efforts. The student will develop their knowledge and skills to construct and operate high-angle rope rescue systems, static ascend and descend lines, perform self-rescue maneuvers. These systems will incorporate progress capture, pretension strategies, single and twin tension systems, belay systems, haul systems, lowering systems, horizontal rescue systems (skate blocks and track-line systems), including English and Norwegian reeves, ascending, descending systems, pick-off maneuvers, self-rescue maneuvers, and the construction and operation of artificial (portable) high-point directionals. Topics include: NFPA 1006 Standard for Technical Rescue, knot tying, hazard control, rope rescue system construction and operation, rope rescue equipment selection, use, and application, and safety integration to rescue tactics, horizontal rope systems, personal vertical skills, pick-off and litter management, and special rescue disciplines. This course is designed for the tactical rescuer at the operations level in accordance with NFPA 1006 and 1670/2500. The course is designed to prepare the rescuer for professional certification testing (written and skills) in accordance with NFPA 1006 Rope Technical Rescuer Awareness, Operations, and Technician Levels.

  • June 14, 23, 25th | ARSON DETECTION

    Prerequisites:

    Description:

    Upon successful completion, the student will be able to provide a clear definition of the role of initial responder organizations and to provide essential knowledge to enable them to recognize the potential of an intentionally set fire, preserve evidence, and properly report the information to appropriate officials.

  • June 13th & 14th | FIREFIGHTER SURVIVAL

    Prerequisites:

    age, 18, and up, interior firefighter, or Bucks, basic Academy, or structure burn session, or firefighter I certification


    Description:

    This program is a physically demanding comprehensive program dealing with the necessary knowledge and skills relative to rescue procedures needed for self rescue. Emphasis will be placed on search techniques, communications, accountability/location and self rescue procedures. This program will teach the firefighters how to reduce the risk of  firefighter injuries and deaths in Pennsylvania. The class will enable firefighters to become more aware and familiar with procedures that may be used to prevent or perhaps lesson the seriousness of injuries or even save their lives. Students must be in a adequate physical condition to perform 100% of all practical exercise exercises.

    Description:

  • June 22nd, 24th & 28th | TRUCK COMPANY OPERATIONS I

    Description:

    This course will introduce the student to the basic duties of a truck company, including hand and power tool operation, search and rescue, and ventilation. Truck companies support to the engine company is also covered.
